New emergency centre for heart attack victims

The German Heart Centre Bremen in Dubai Healthcare City on Monday announced that it would soon open an emergency centre for heart attack and stroke cases in cooperation with City Hospital.
The centre would be fully operational by the summer this year.
“Currently, heart attack patients in Dubai are transported to hospitals which are built for other emergencies like trauma patients, but have no established pathways or technological infrastructure and personnel for internal medicine emergencies, such as heart attacks or strokes,” said Dr Klaus Kallmayer, chairman of the German Heart Centre Bremen.

“The transportation to and preliminary treatment carried out at such hospitals are a dangerous waste of time for patients, who should be immediately brought to a specialised and dedicated 24/7 interventional cardiovascular facility,” he remarked.

“The staff using a catheterisation laboratory and treating heart attack patients must be highly trained in this specialty and must have hands-on experience.

“Heart attack patients are unstable and a huge number of unforeseeable complications can occur. As a result, cardiologists with vast experience are needed to handle these extreme situations on a 24 hour basis.” Source
